What Causes Delay In Menstruation After Removing Copper IUD?

Hi there, I had my copper IUD removed on July 2, 2015 to try and conceive my second child. I was due for my period on July 6th and it is now July 20th and I have yet to start. I have taken 3 different pregnancy test and all were negative. Is it normal for periods to be so delayed after removal? I was under the impression that since the ParaGard IUD did not have hormones, that my cycle would not be affected. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks, Bryana

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Are you taking any medications? Sometimes, menstrual delay may happen and we can rule it out. I suggest you to take USG pelvis and Beta HCG, LH and FSH blood test and consult your gynecologist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Indhu Priyadharshini, General & Family Physician
