What Causes Decreased Appetite, Heart Palpitations And Weight Loss While Treating Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?

I have been diagnosed with Hoshimoto`s thyroiditis. Lately I m anxious, jittery, hot, sweaty, loss of appetite, heart palpitations, and weight loss. This happened 2 years ago. The Dr. I had then adjusted my levothyroxine and I was fine until about 3 weeks ago. I reported to my new Dr. Who said my numbers are fine and said it was stress. What should I do?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,

I can see two conditions after reading your query. First, it can be due to thyroid disturbances but as you have mentioned they are normal. I recommend repeating thyroid profile and check again. Second, you have developed anxiety which is very common in people with thyroid disturbances. For anxiety you need to consult a psychiatrist.

You may require to start anti-anxiety medicines like Venlafaxine or Mirtazapine. Meanwhile, you start doing meditation, eat healthy food, sleep at least 8 hours in a day and spend 30 minutes on mild exercise. This will help in reducing stress.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Prashant Gohil
