What Causes Cough In A Child?

My 5 year old has had a really bad cough for over 5 days now; he is unable to eat a thing and has lost 2kgs. There is no phlegm, but he get severe bouts of coughing which results in him being sick. The cough is generally worst at night, and nothing seems to be working.there is history of asthma on fathers side; could this be related? Please help.

It could be an upper respiratory tract infection. Consult a pediatrician and get evaluated. Antibiotics must be started.
