General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

A cough comes from your respiratory tract, while vomitus comes from a food tube. A thick mucus should not cause vomiting. Both of these symptoms could be unrelated to each other.

A productive cough in 2 year old could be due to RSV virus and it causes a condition called bronchiolitis. If your child had repeated upper respiratory infections along with thick mucus, I would suggest that you get your child screened for cystic fibrosis.

I would suggest that you should take him to ER if your child still has a persistent high-grade fever.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
