High-grade fever

Questions and answers on "High-grade fever"

My husband became ill with fever and chills early Saturday morning, was having problems with frequent urination and some blood in the urine (no pain on urination or flank pain). Took him to the doctor Saturday morning, they are culturing the urine and put him on antibiotics. He is still running a significant fever (101.6). How long should I wait before taking him back to the doctor?

H and welcome to XXXXXXX WIsh you good health.
These are typical signs of urinary infection and this is usually easily treated by antibiotics. Beside antibiotics he should take some antipyretic such as paracetamol, aspirine or ibuprofen. It usually takes 2-3 days till antibiotic starts to work...

The day before yesterday I had a terrible fever and headache and joint pains on my foot . Yesterday morning, i still have fever and there are rashes on my thighs. I went to the doctor and said I had measles . I don t have high fever anymore and only my eyes hurt. Do I still take the medication the doctor prescribed on me? Or just an anti-bacterial medicine or just for measles? Also, most importantly, how do I get rid of this bitter taste in my mouth? I was trying to eat pizza but I can t enjoy it cause it tastes bitter to me. My mom said its because of the flu medicine I ve been taking but thats not possible.. Should I drink something to get rid of it?

doctor1 MD

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
You need to take all the medicines prescribed to you including the ones for fever. Avoid eating junk food. Symptoms will subside in next 2 weeks.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.

You are probably suffering from gastroenteritis. You need to rule out infection like Typhoid which can present with that kind of rash. Kindly consult a Doctor, get your stool tested and take required treatment which may include antibiotics. As of now take ORS in sips...

I have been coughing for two weeks, no energy, aches.. no significant fever..feel wiped out. I did get the flu shot about four days before I started feeling icky.

doctor1 MD

Hi,

From your past medical history it is but normal to be feeling like your used up (no energy) when ever you acquire an illness. You have been on chemo and radiation which are factors that can contribute to fatigue even in the long run.
The cough might be due to a chest infection and lack of...

I am 23 weeks and 1 day preganant and was recently hospitalized due to flu complications. i had a terrible fever which was causing me to have contraction. I was having ear pain while in the hospital but no one checked my ears. When I went to my follow up appt with my CNM, she said I had fluid behind my left eardrum and to take antihistamine and it would help. My hearing in that er is very slight and I am quite a few moments of dizziness. I have never had any complications during pregnancies, this is my 7th. The benedryl just makes me sleepy. Both of my ears pop terrible now when I yawn. And I have moments of dizziness even when Im not moving. I have a history of upper respiratory infections and ear infections. I have antibiotics on hand from my last Dr. for this but I havent taken them because I dont know if they are safe while preganant. I have Cipro 500mg and Bactrim DS.

doctor1 MD

Hello,
It sound as if you have an ear infection. But you need an otoscopy to confirm.
This may cause pain, fever, hearing difficulties, dizziness, even balance problems. You should definitely start antibiotics for this. But you shouldnt take ciprosulfa drugs during pregnancy.
You should be examined...

3 days ago I napped and when I woke up my stomach started to ache. I attributed this to the significant amounts of garlic that I naively ate before napping. However, within 2 hours of awakening I developed a serious fever: icy hands then later a fiery face and achy muscles, some vertigo and occasional slight coughing. The stomach pain also worsened.

It's been about 60 hours and the fever has just now subsided quite a bit. My stomach still hurts a lot though and my energy is low. I'm worried about the stomach.

More info:
- stomach pain seems to be in the center and deeper - below the belly button
- pain is achey and sometimes intense
- pain comes and goes in bouts
- I've taken alka-seltzer, tums and ibuprofen which seem to help at times but I'm not really sure
- No extra gassiness
- Stool seems normal. No blood or visible worms.

My profile:
- 27 year old male
- Non-smoker
- Rare drinker (1 drink / 2 weeks)
- Personal trainer. Very healthy and active. Started extremely clean diet (also very high protein) 1 month ago and started working out 5 times / week two weeks ago. These changes may be intense on the body.

My question: What could this be? Worms? An ulcer caused by the garlic? Something else? Is this an emergency?

Thank you.

doctor1 MD

Hi and thanks for the query,

Fever and abdominal pain deserves that an infectious process be formerly excluded. This might require blood tests like a complete blood count, a stool examination, a stool culture and antibiotic sensitivity testing. The pain somewhat suggests some degree of gastric...

Hi, my child is 4 years old. Around 5 days back she had slight chest pain, we went to the doctor who said that it may be because of some gastric problem, the chest pain vanished in the evening but serious fever started from that that, we went again to the doctor who diagnosed a viral infection. The fever lasted for 3 days and now she is having pain in her neck, probably the food pipe, there are 2 -3 boils which we can see just above the place where the tongue ends. Today is the fourth day she is suffering from the neck pain, the boils which we could see are disappearing but the neck pain still persist. Please suggest what could be the reason.

doctor1 MD

Hello and thank you for posting this query.

Chest pain, fever and visible ulcers appear to be probably caused by viral infection that might have resulted in epiglotitis (mucosal inflammation) and pneumonitis.

To help you out, can you specify a few more details :-

1. Is your child able to have...
