What Causes Cough Along With Shortness Of Breath?

I have been on Augmentin for 10 days for sinus infection. Sinus infection 75% cleared. Had a Jaclynn cough which dr thought mostly sinus drainage. Cough is less but deeper with constant dull midsternwl ache, shortness of breath at rest and deep congestion that rattles. No wheezing. No temp? Could I possibly have pneumonia? Dt

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If cough is associated with sputum, start Bromhexine syrup, 8 hourly.

Along with it, do following things:
- Take steam inhalation 3 times a day
- Do gargles with lukewarm salt water
- Avoid cold water and other eatables
- Drink lukewarm warm as much as you can.

If shortness of breath is only because of cough then no need to worry and if it occurs on exertion or at rest, please consult physician to rule out other causes.

If cough is for more than 2 weeks along with weight loss, evening rise of temperature and loss of appetite, then do sputum test for Tuberculosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
