What Causes Constant Swelling And Burning In Tongue While Suffering From Halitosis?

I have had chronic halitosis my entire life. I have gone to doctors, dentists, naturopathics and many other sources and have never gotten any relief. My tongue is always swollen and burning. It has affected my professional and personal life to such a degree that I'm fairly depressed. Could you give me any diagnosis?

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have swelling and burning of tongue along with long standing history of halitosis could be because of poor oral hygiene, hormonal imbalance, nutritional insufficiency, dry mouth, underlying medical condition or gastroesophageal reflux disease.

I would suggest you not to worry about it and take few preventive measures such as :

1) Suck on ice or sip on cold water to reduce the burning and pain of tongue.

2) Using baking soda instead of commercially available toothpaste in case certain ingredients in your regular toothpaste is causing the symptoms of burning tongue and halitosis.

3) Make a paste of onion and a few pods of garlic. Add this to water and use this mixture to gargle daily. This helps reduce the burning sensation in the mouth and prevents bad breath.

4) Apply a layer of glycerin over the tongue can reduce the pain and burning as well

5) Avoid smoking and alcohol, and cutting down on spicy and oily foods. Chew on sugar free gums to increase saliva production.

6) Regular exercise such as yoga and meditation can lessen stress and anxiety that can aggravate the symptoms of burning tongue syndrome.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
