Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a constant minty/menthol taste in my mouth for the last month. I am on acid reflux medication and have been for years, I have not changed any meds or supplements recently. I don't know whether to worry about this strange taste or not. I talked with my dentist and they say it isn't dental related.
Mint or menthol like taste or can say a distorted taste can be due to a number of causes.. Some common causes are sinus infections , tooth infection, respiratory infections, dry mouth, heart burn, reflux etc. Dryness of mouth, smoking, vitamin B12 or zinc deficiency, salivary gland infection, side effect of medicines can also be factors. Any a times high blood sugar levels causing Ketoacidosis can also cause a fruity smell and taste.. So better to get a clinical examination done for ruling out the exact cause and then treatment can be done according to the diagnosis.. For now you should maintain a good oral hygiene. Do not forget to clean your tongue daily with a tongue cleaner.. Do hydrogen peroxide rinses by making a solution in water.. Drink plenty of water..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
