What Causes Cloudy Spots In The Eye Of A Baby?

I have a 5 month old baby and she has a cloudy spot on her inner eye towards the iris of her eye. The pediatrician says it might be pterygium. We are waiting for a referral to an eye doctor to confirm for sure. I don't understand because we hardly have her in the direct sunlight. Could it be related to medicine (like ranidine or levothyroxine medicine) since she is being breastfed?

We are worried since and now just sitting and waiting for a referral. We don't want her eye to get worse.

Any help, would be greatful.

Well pterygium is highly unlikely in 5 month old.

Most important thing you can check, is there a squinting of affected eye. If there is no squinting suggests no major vision threatening lesions.

Or shine torch light in between eyes, reflex from both pupils should closely be similar.

If the lesion is something looks like pterygium, rarely possibility is pseudopetrygium, if she was anytime affected with infection of conjunctiva and cornea at the same time.

More possibility could be corneal dystrophies, corneal scar etc.

Check for squint and reflex, if they look fine do not worry much and wait for expert consult.

Regards
