What Causes Chronic Tremors In Hand With Dizziness Upon Standing Up?

Sometimes, more frequently than not, when I stand up after sitting for awhile, I become dizzy, I need to hold on to something so I don t fall, my entire body begins to shake for about a minute, then it slowly subsides. My left hand always has tremors. Should I be concerned?

Hi,

Brief answer:
With your complains, you are suffering from postural hypotension(Orthostatic hypotension).

Detailed answer:
Postural hypotension is the condition in which there is pooling of blood in the lower limbs and lower abdomen due to gravity effect. Normally the change in posture that is standing from sitting or lying down position, there is pooling of blood in the lower limbs and abdomen which causes low blood pressure sensed by the receptors present near the heart and the arteries in the neck. These receptors send the signal to the brain which increases the blood pressure. Common causes for postural hypotension are dehydration or prolonged rest.

This condition is presented as lightheadedness, weakness, fatigue, fainting, and or dizziness. If the symptoms are occasional, no need to worry. If it recurs considerable number of times or fainting even for few seconds is significant. There are several cause for the hypotension involving heart, endocrine conditions such as hypoglycemia, dehydration following fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, strenuous exercises, hot weather, profuse sweating, etc. The treatment depends on the cause. Proper diet, appropriate fluid intake are helpful in common causes. Consult a physician for specific treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
