Psychiatrist 's  Response
hi..thanks for writing.. i have understood your concerns..

the sad feelings and depression are very common at your age..causes may be retirement, loneliness, widowhood, empty home [children are not living with u] etc.. the hormonal changes occurs at the age of 45 to 50 years during menopause..

the treatment of depression with estrogen replacement therapy is a debate continuing for last 2 decades..there are pros and cons..treatment with hormones does not cause depression..

in my opinion u shud not take hormones on your own...consult a psychiatrist and tell him about your feelings and depression...

your depression can be easily treated with antidepressant medications and psychotherapy..

i hope u will find this advice helpful..best luck..
