What Causes Chronic Cough With White Sputum?

I have been coughing thick whitish sputum for a month now that is getting better, thinning out, but is still white and somewhat thick in the morning. I started having ongoing pain in my upper front left shoulder today. Yesterday I had one sharp, quick mid chest pain like a sharp object. Should I be worried? I just made 67.

Thank You for contacting HCM.

- Take Diphenhydramine + Dextromethorphan for cough.
- Take Levofloxacin 500mg once daily for 7days. (It is a prescription medicine so you need to visit nearest doctor to get it)
- Take acetaminophen for pain & fever
- Take hot water in a cup, add 1 table spoon salt in it. Perform gargles (mouth wash) with it three times a day for at least 3 days. It will give soothing effect.
Apart from medication i would like to advise you some necessary tests as per details you are having pain chest pain:
1)Chest X-ray (PA view)
2)CBC (complete blood count ) with ESR.
3)Sputum culture and sensitivity.
4)ECG
