General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

Cough is a common symptom related to flu and cold even days after they are over. I advise to take OTC antihystaminic medication for coughing, increase fluids intake and do aerosol therapy.

Sometimes, there is stomach hyperacidity accompanying cold and flu that would probably trigger / aggravate coughing. Taking antacids after meal together with ranitidine at bedtime can also help.

The pain you feel in your chest is due to coughing for such long time. You can take anti inflammatory medications for the pain.
Applying cold balm on your chest and back can also help.

If coughing will still persist, further examination by your physician is advised to rule out other complications.

Hope it was of help!
