What Causes Chest Tightness While Suffering From Pleurisy And Coronary Artery Disease?

at age 60 (12/6/14 I had knee surgery. Dr. didn t listen to me when I told her my chest was tight. So I developed pleursy. Went to lung dr. he said underlying infection was pnumonia. Also had sialoadenitis. Thru all of the CAT scans it was first discovered I had coronary artery desease. Next CAT, dialeted left ventricle. I had had the pnumonia since Nov. 20 which is why the pleursy developed. I saw the lung dr Mar. 13. Would all of these along with being discovered so late be why I now have heart problems? Or am I just lucky I had these illnesses so that the heart problems were discovered. I was diagnosed in my 20 s with mytral valve prolapse. Is this associated with my heart problems now? And shouldn t their be more concern? I have to wait 2 months to see my cardiologist.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I suppose your pleurisy could be a result of pneumonia which you would have developed after your surgery or during your hospital stay. It is not uncommon to have suffered from pneumonia during a hospital stay. It is seen quite often.

As far as your CAD is concerned, it not related to pneumonia directly however any illness/stress can precipitate the existing CAD (not cause CAD) and cause a heart attack. CAD is also not a sequelae to Mitral valve prolapse which was discovered in your twenties. I would finally advise you to seek treatment for CAD at the earliest without worrying about it.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
