What Causes Chest Discomfort After Taking Carvedilol 12.5 Mg?

My husband is 77 and on numerous medicines. I just had a prescription refilled for Carvedilol 12.5 mg. He takes this twice a day. in the past week his blood pressure has begun to climb and Thursday he had chest discomfort with blood pressure 225/185. We went to the ER and they found no reason for this. Is it possible he refill was done with a different med by mistake. We ended up back at the ER yesterday with the same thing. All they could do was give him something to lower the BP

Hi,

Blood pressure of over 200 hundred is too high and when association with chest pain, it becomes an emergency to be a delay in on emergency bases. However, carvedilol does not cause high BP.

Similarly, it's very unlikely that you would have been given the wrong prescription.

I would suggest she should be checked for secondary hypertension (detailed blood work if already not done) and should be advised more potent antihypertensive drugs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
