What Causes Calf Muscle Shrinkage With History Of Hysterectomy?

The muscle in my left calf is shrinking. I m a60 year old, active, female. I ve tried physical therapy and exercise and it doesn t help. It s not painful and, at this point, I don t feel like its much weaker. In October 2014, I had a hysterectomy and some lifting of bladder, etc. Something in there was attached to muscle or something around my lower spine. Could this have effected a nerve that caused my calf to start deteriorating? I m getting more upset all the time...

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

There is possibility of femoral neuropathy dafter vaginal hysterectomy. Physiotherapy along with treatment of neuropathy under guidance would work. It should have been much before. You had the procedure in 2014, 7 years back, still one can always try. Please consult the surgeon/neuro-physician.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
