What Causes Buzzing Noise In Ears While On Wellbutrin For Depression?

I m having buzzing noises in both ears for 3 months. The sound is like the noise insects and locusts make at night outdoors. I ve had several ear infections in the past 18 months but have only noticed the buzzing noises for about 3 months. The only new medicine I am taking is wellbutrin for depression. Can that be a side effect from the drug? I checked to see if I could find any information regarding this side effect. I have been on the new medicine for several months and the only side effect I know of is I get a metallic taste and dry mouth. I am a healthy 66 yr. old woman in good health and a non smoker and social drinker.I m wondering what else I need to be looking at that can cause the buzzing in my ears. Thank You, Susan Moss

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of buzzing noise in ears while on Wellbutrin for depression which seems to be due to ear infection, it could be due to ear drum perforation and foreign body penetration in ear.

Need not to worry about it. Wellbutrin as such donot have any such adverse effect of ear buzzing. I would suggest you to visit Otolaryngologist immediately and get evaluated and start treatment after proper examination. You should get examination with otoscope. You should take antibiotic Ciprofloxacin along with this put Otogesic ear drops 2-3 times a day. Try to avoid pricking it with any sharp object. You should avoid excessive use of mobile from that side and sleeping on that side.
