Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
90 yr old mother in law sob and no energy...burps all the time...keeps eyes closed when talking to us...can not be convinced to participate in ADL's...acting weaker and weaker. We had her assessed by a nurse last week ...everything seemed fine..just lack of spirit/motivation..so we have had physical therapists this last week to try to build strength. Now she seems worse..will barely respond..says shes half the time nauseous. Big question is this...could these symptoms indicate her pacemaker is not doing the job? Last PM check we were told we would have to talk about a new one soon...so thought this might be part of whats going on. I know she is 90..and has every right to be ready to shut down ,,but we have worked hard to keep her going....
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Since your mother in law is 90 the age related all the factors will play their roles hence the special Geriatric care has to be taken. This is possible in special Geriatric centers or a Special Nurse can take care at home. Intravenous nutrition or so can be tried. Very true it is better not to trouble her so much but it is needed that the proper care can improve the remaining life to a fruitful existence. It is nice to know that you have worked hard to keep her going.
