What Causes Burning Sensation On The Tongue?

My tongue is always burning. I have used biotene gel but that doesn t help very long. I brush my teeth 3 times a day using biotene tooth paste. That sooths it for awhile, but doesn t last long. Do you have any ideas what to do to help this go away. I am very careful about what I eat, nothing spicy, or hot.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. As per your complain you have problem of burning sensation in tongue that may be because of fungal infection (oral thrush) or nutrient deficincey. Lack of saliva production lead to dry mouth so it cause burning sensation in tongue.

Over brushing in tongue damage a pappilla of tongue. Nerve damage also cause burning sensation. Hormonal imbalance may ruled out. Consult a dentist for further treatment. Start a treatment according to cause.

I hope my guidance helpful to you.

Take care. Thank you.

Regards,
Dr. Rachana R Goswami
