What Causes Bumps And Patches All Over The Tongue?

Hi. For about a week now I been experiencing bumps, rough patches all over my tongue. On the left side it s also sore. If you look very closely on the tip of the tongue it s also very inflamed papillae and is also sensitive. I m not sure what caused this, I never had issues like this before..and both of my ears are also plugged.

Hi..
Thanks for the query.

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from severe inflammation and ulceration of the tongue leading to Stomatitis, Lingual Pappilitis [Inflammation of papillae] and apthous ulcers or canker sores..
It can occur due to severe allergic reaction while can also be due to Vitamin B12 and Iron deficiency, dry mouth, oral yeast infection, etc..

Other causes can be viral infection or Bullous Pemphegoid..

Plugged ears can be due to ear infection, excess accumulation of earwax, blocked eustachian tubes, fluid behind eardrum etc..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated for the inflammation and pain related to the tongue and a clinical examination and investigations like complete blood picture, Hb%, serum vitamin B12 levels, microscopy of scrapings from tongue can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

As of now you can start gargling with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
You can apply steroid ointment like Triamcinolone Acetonide..
Do cool water rinses and suck ice pops..
Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..

For plugged ears take decongestant nasal spray containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline and also consult an ENT expert and get an otoscopic examination done..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
