What Causes Bruises On The Legs While On Effexor?

Hello, When I began taking Effexor (venlafaxine) I seemed to develop a lot of bruises on my legs. I got perhaps one on my arm and even at one point a tiny bit under the eyes. I have been on it for quite a while now, the bruising subsided, but without good reason, bruises do appear on my legs from time to time, mostly the morning after having had a few alcoholic beverages. I also seem to spit out a little bit of blood in my toothpaste quite frequently when I clean my teeth. I was just wondering if it was likely these things were related to Effexor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Dear. I dont think the bruises on your body is related to effexor. Unless you have some allergic reaction to the drug, which should have developed the first time itself when you consumed those drugs.

For your information the most common side effects of effexor- dizziness, drowsiness, headache, insomnia, nausea, nervousness, anorexia, decreased appetite, dry mouth.

Since you are developing bruises kindly consult a doctor who may do complete blood count and see your platelet levels and also coagulation profile. If platelets are low or if there is deficiency of clotting factors then bruises may develop. You may need to undergo detailed evaluation.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
