What Causes Bruise And Knot On Back?

There is a knot on my 8 month old daughter s back. I noticed it a few months ago, but blew it off. She sometimes fall backwards in her play pen and I thought maybe she fell on a toy. I was rubbing her back last night and noticed it s still there and has a bruise color to it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The lump on the back of your daughter must be soft tissue swelling following an injury or fall. The bruising is due to collection of blood in the swollen tissue. It will subside on its own. Just give hot compression over the lump for two to three days. If it hurts her too much, give paracetamol drops. If the lump contains black head, it may be sebaceous cyst. If it persists for more than a week, consult the doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
