What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge While Suffering From Endometriosis?

I have endometriosis and take birtcontroll where I swallow a pill everyday for three weeks and then there is a week where I don t take any and it has stopped my period, but for the last few months on the week where I don t take anything I have had a very dark brown discharge. When I first saw this I was worried and rembered that my doctor said that I could just start the next month of my birth control so I did. When I started taking the pill again the brown discharge stopped. I have had sex only 3 time and used protection every time. What s does this mean? I m really worried!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Well, the cause of yellowish or brown vaginal discharge is common and usually harmless issue. Occasional spotting between periods might have this appearance and can be normal, especially if you're taking low-dose birth control pills. So in most cases this is not sign of disease. If it is, then usually this indicates bacterial vaginosis, STD or polycystic ovarian syndrome. Less common, some other hormonal disorders may be present. In some cases, however, a yellow or brown vaginal discharge could indicate a serious problem. Although brown and yellow vaginal discharge often does not indicate a serious problem, it should not be ignored if it persists, recurs or is accompanied by other symptoms and then you should see gynecologist for further work up. In some cases, a yellow or brown vaginal discharge could indicate a serious problem.

Wishing you good health.
