What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge After Having Sex?
Hello so I ve been on Levest for over 2 years now and had no problems period always comes on time etc etc. Anyway last week I had sex and noticed some blood after wards ever since then I have been bleeding very dark brown blood (not a lot but enough to stain my underwear) while taking the pill so not during my break. It slowed down and I had sex again then I noticed the blood was coming out red, now two days later it s gone back to being brown? I m really worried as to what could be causing this? Do you have any ideas?
Bleeding with intimacy can be due to different possible causes such as:
(1) Changes to the cervix such as benign (not cancerous) growths or it can also be due to pre-cancer changes as well
(2) Infection
(3) Dryness of the vaginal wall
(4) Uterine growths which may be benign or more serious
It would be best to see your doctor for an assessment which would include general physical examination along with vaginal examination.Imaging such as an ultrasound may be needed. If there is no recent pap smear, this would need to be done as well. Treatment would depend on the cause found.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
