What Causes Breathlessness And Anxiety After Taking Amoxicillin For Lump On Gum?

I had a root canal treatment done on the bottom right tooth, 4th from the back about 1.5 months ago. After the treatment, I noticed a hard lump began to grow under the tooth on the gum. I also started feeling light throbbing pain that would come and go. Sometimes this pain would feel like it is travelling along my jaw, up to my right ear. I went back to my dentist several times expressing my concern and having him check it out. He said it was nothing serious and prescribed my amoxicillin 500g for a week. I took the medication and the problem still didn't go away. The lump remained there, the same size. It doesn't hurt unless I press hard on it. It feels very hard and bone-like. Finally, the dentist referred me to see a specialist. I google'd the specialist and read some very poor reviews about him from patients. I do not feel comfortable visiting this specialist and believe he will provide the same low quality service as this dentist I got my root canal from. Anyhow, my appointment with this specialist is in 2 days (after waiting for weeks). I am looking up other specialists in my area who have better reviews and will go to one of them if I can find better. The pain has gone down over the past few weeks around this root canaled tooth however, if I wiggle the tooth, it feels a bit loose. The lump on the gum is still there. Now, I feel shortness of breath all day even while I am resting and a very light pain in my chest that is barely there but I can still feel it. My stomach feels a burning sensation sometimes throughout the day as well. I was told by my dentist that this is just anxiety and I need to relax but after googling this condition, I am scared the infection has spread and could end fatally...Am I panicking? Today is a national holiday so tomorrow I will call my family doctor first thing in the morning and book an appointment with him. What should I do now? Is this serious, should I go to the ER? Or should I wait to see my family doc and see what he says? I am very scared. I am only 21 years old and have not cared for my teeth for several years due to no dental insurance. Please help.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query breathlessness and anxiety after taking Amoxicillin for lump on gum is because of side effect of antibiotics. Need not to worry about it , it can happen many a times.

Maintain proper hygiene.

Visit dentist once and get you oral cavity checked if any underlying medical condition.

For lump on gum take proper precautions like avoid spicy, hot food. use topical antibiotics and apply raw honey . Also take anti histamine drug like benadryl or zyrtec.

Your doctor may give you another antibiotic .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain it is clear from the description of the symptoms that there is persistent infection below the root tips of the infected tooth leading to formation of pus and accumulation of pus in the soft tissues leading to formation of a lump..

It can also lead to pain which can radiate to same side of jaw, ear and eye..

Although amoxicillin which is a penicillin group of antibiotic can reduce pain but until the source of infection is present the pain will not subside completely..
The loose feeling of the tooth is also due to abscess and abscess can cause the tooth to be slightly raised from its position and appear loose..

It is nothing very serious and you need not to worry as this condition and the lump formed is treatable..

The best way you should get it done is to get the root canal filling removed completely and then you should take antibiotics preferably higher ones like Augmentin 625 mg along with painkillers like Advil.

The lump will begin to resolve and during this duration cleaning of the root canals should be done.
Once it resolves completely you should get the re-filling of the tooth done..

Hope this information helps..
