What Causes Breathing Difficulty And Stiffness In The Neck?

I have a history of gastritis and am familiar with the symptoms. But, in the last 2 weeks, I ve had acid reflux daily, which I ve only had when I was pregnant almost 22 years ago, and I ve had a knot under my left shoulder blade which makes it difficult to breathe. I ve also been experiencing stiffness in my neck for a couple of months and have been unable to play volleyball because of this. I ride bike regularly and hike, but I m getting out of breath lately, doing routine things. I keep up with routine ob gyn exams, but haven t been to my primary care physician in some time. I m contributing a lot to my high stress job, but the symptoms just keep piling up and I m concerned.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
You are right to be concerned.

* what is your height and weight and age?
*do you smoke or consume alcohol?
* do you have any other medical conditions or take any medications?
* any weight loss/gain?
* have you attained menopause? is so, when?
Based on your symptoms, I would like to check for cervical spondylosis (neck spine problems) and heart disease

I recommend:
- a physician consult
-blood tests ( complete blood count, lipid profile, blood sugar levels, kidney and liver function tests?
- spirometry
- chest x ray
- electrocardiogram and echocardiogram
- a stress test if needed
- an endoscopy to check for severity of gastritis (if clinically indicated)

based on these we can arrive at a diagnosis
I suggest that you see your primary care physician as soon as possible.
Hope this helps. Take it easy till the doctor clear you for exercise.
Wish you good health
