What Causes Bleeding From The Breast Despite A Normal Mammogram?

My wife is currently on smz/tmp reg strength 400-80mg tb. the reason she originalaly went to her was because of severe breast pain in her left breast. She had a alot of crust on her nipple and it started to bleed a little so they moved up her appointment.. This apst Monday 7/3/17 she had a mamogram and did not see anything abnormal. So they started her on this medication. Is this a good idea??
