Vivid dreams is one of the common side effect of propranolo and this could be the reason for your scary dreams over the last six years.
Regarding your question about discontinuation of betaloc I like to assure you that it is safe provided the reason for its prescription is non dangerous one. For example if it was prescribed for anxiety you can stop it but there will be some rebound anxiety.
Similarly if it was prescribed for blood pressure I think you need to supplement its action with some other medication after talking to your doctor. I hope this answers you. Thanks and regards.
