What Causes Arm Pain After Drawing Blood?

Hi my husband went for a routine blood draw today. The nurse said it was her first. We ll she messed up pretty bad, my husband was bleeding all over, has an open gash on his inner elbow. Now it s evening. His arm is in pain all the way down to his hand, he has lumps all around the site, abnormally sweating. The latest is his arm feels slightly numb even though we haven t iced it. I m worried. Urgent care and doctor offices are closed. Only option is ER tonight. Not sure what s going on, if we should be worried, if this warrants an all night trip to ER. Any help? He s 35 and healthy.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think you need to visit ER as soon as possible. Your husband might have developed some allergic reaction to drug also. Some time there is puncture in veins and it causes leakage of liquid. That can also cause blister.
Till you go to your doctor, you should not apply any cream or bandage. Ice application is allowed.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
Thanks
