What Causes Anxiety And Depression After Taking Amitriptyline?

My daughter has been taking 25mg of Amitriptilyne for 2 years for nausea. It works great for this, in fact, if she ever misses a dose she throws up 2 days later like clockwork. She has been battling depression and anxiety for 2 years as well. She has never seen a physician for this, but sees the school psychologist and she has recently suggested we get more medical help for the situation and it is getting more severe. I just found out today that Amitriptyline is also used for depression. Could the Amitryptiline be causing these psych issues?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Antietam depression is not side effects of Amitriptyline.

So, in my opinion, the symptoms of your daughter are not related to the use of Amitriptyline.

I suggest to consult a psychiatrist for further evaluation and treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
