What Causes An Itching Sensation In The Nipple?

About 4 to 5 days ago I started to have an itching sensation in my left nipple, nothing relieved it. Right after that I found a sore at the top base of my nipple and a hard swollen area. It is extremely tender to the touch and I am in constant pain. Changing bra s didn t alleviate it, ice hasn t alleviated it nor has ibuprofin. There is also a tenderness in my left underarm area that started yesterday. To go along with that I have been getting light headed the past few days as well as an aching in my joints and bones has become more prominent than normal. I have an appointment with a surgeon in three weeks but I worry that is too long to wait.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM
There are many medical conditions that can give you that presentation.Given the acute nature of the symptoms, it may be a mastitis or an abscess. However, other causes of painful lumps in the breast should be excluded like breast cyst and tumours. The swelling in your left under arm may be a lymph node. This is common with breast infections (mastitis, abscess) and also with cancerous breast tumours.Pain medications like ibuprofen at times may not help much if there is undrained pus in the lump.Staying for three weeks to see your Surgeon is not an option hear.I will advise you visit your GP to examine your breast. You may be placed on a course of antibiotics if any arguments for an infection and pain medications like ibuprofen. If any pus, it will be drained.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
