What Causes Acid Reflux And Chest Pain After Having Hiatal Hernia Surgery?

Hi, I had hiatal hernia surgery 8 weeks ago and whenever I eat I get terrible acid reflux, chest pain and my stomach gets very bloated and hard. Previous to the surgery I only had pain during the night when I slept on my back. Now, whenever I eat I feel terrible. Is it my diet or maybe the healing period is still healing?

Hi
Chest pain, acid reflux and stomach disorders are common after a hiatal hernia surgery and may last for 6 to 8 weeks in some people and more in others. You just need time to get over the symptoms. However, there are a series of home based measures that will relief you and make you get over the effects of the surgery faster:
-Your diet should progressively move from clear liquid to full liquid and then to soft food.
-Chew well before swallowing and avoid cold food and food that clumps together like rice at least for now.
-Avoid eating and sleeping or lying down immediately.Lying 2-3hours after a meal is advisable
-Avoid strenuous activities for now and lifting heavy objects
Pain medications like steroidal anti-inflammatories and anti-secretories like omeprazole may help you feel better.
You may also get back to your surgeon if any unbearable symptoms appear like unbearable pains while on pain medication, inability to swallow, breathlessness, or if your tommy swells or hurt.
Hope my answer will help you
Wish you a speedy recovery
