What Causes Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding During Menopause?

My wife is 49 and is post menopausal. She has had abnormal bleeding since July but now is having very heavy flow with clots. She was taking estrogen in pellet form and progesterone, she stop taking the progesterone thinking the pellet had stopped releasing estrogen. Could this be the source of her problems, and should we be worried about cancer?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
There is problem with the pallet you are taking.
Your symptoms could be due to dysfunctioal uterine bleeding, endometrial dysplasia/cancer, polyp, endometriosis, fibroid/ademomyosis.
I would suggest to consult the gynecologist and undergo reproductive hormone analysis, vaginal examination, USG scan, PAP smear, endometrial biopsy to confirm the cause.
Specific treatment will depend on the cause and test result.
Progesterone shot and tranexemic acid will help to reduce the bleeding.
Avoid stress, take healthy diet with iron and folic acid supplements, maintain proper pelvic hygiene.
Hope this may help you
Best regards
