What Causes Abnormal Area Of Hyperintensity?

My mri showed that an abnormal area of hyperintensity and I have been referred to a neurologist. What would cause this? I am a 35 year old female who has depression. I am 5 5 and 120 lbs with a history of unexplained seizures during the ages of 15-17.
