What Causes Abdominal Pain While Suffering From Hypertension?

My daughter has been having mass pain in her stomach area. She has had high blood pressure, pulse and they have done tests on her. CT with barium and an EGD. They came back with she has thickening of the walls and then said the flap between the esophagus and stomach isn t working. Will this make it so she is having pain in her stomach area and not her throat

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

She has multiple and most probably unrelated problems.

The cause of pain in the abdomen is certainly confirmed by CT scan with contrast which shows thickening of intestinal walls. Such a problem needs further evaluation to find the specific cause of thickening of bowel say for example tuberculosis and so on so that a specific treatment can be given.

The upper GI endoscopy showing flap between esophagus and stomach not working causes a condition called GERD and can be treated with prokinetics and a PPI to suppress acid going up to the esophagus. Surgery is sometimes needed in case of failure of medical management. Also needed is to reduce weight, change lifestyle.

About hypertension and raised pulse rate: Proper cardiac evaluation is needed for proper diagnosis and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
