What Causes Abdominal Pain, Vomiting And Constipation After A Total Gastrectomy?
I had to have a total gastrectomy 1 year and 2 months ago.. I have been doing nothing but hurting on the left side of my abdomin for about 7 months now.. That is also around the time the vomiting has become an issue at least 9 to 10 times a week.. I am only having a bowel movement about every 2 to 3 days.. Do you have any idea what is the problem?
Total gastrectomy can have some complications which you seem to have to have. Since there is no stomach and the safety non-returning valve the food you eat can come in a reverse way causing vomiting. Dehydration, changed bowel habits can cause constipation and hard stools. Also needed is to have regular tests for hemoglobin and so o by repeated blood tests. Stool softeners and laxative may help to avoid constipation. If there is fecolith formation or so it is best to have soap water enema to evacuate the large bowel in a hope to have bowel training possible. Also have tests of stool and blood to rule out any other potential reasons and complications. Be under the consultation and guidance of a Gastroenterologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
