Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Abdominal Bloating With Rectal Discomfort And Pain?
I have severe lower abdominal pain. Feels like a big pressure and even hurts in the rectum. My stomach is bloated. It started yesterday afternoon and I had a bad night. Severe pain on my left side. I already had my appendic out so it s not that. Just curious to see what it could be.
Hi, From the description of the pain it is not usual to be felt so sharp from constipation. Do you feel the pain continuously or is crampy form? As you have undergone to apendectomy, it is known bowels blockage from adhesions after abdominal surgery although rare for large intestines happening. In your case in fact you do not present nausea or vomiting that are significant to intestinal obstruction but in case of large intestinal obstruction they may be present later.
Do you have fever? Diverticulitis is a probable pathology causing pain and bloating with temperature. I advise you to be directed to a specialist as you need to be completed with a direct abdominal X-ray and CT together with a complete blood count. You cannot use laxatives until excluding these pathologies.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Julinda Maksuti, General Surgeon
