What Causes Abdominal Bloating, Stomach Pain And Diarrhea?

Hi! I woke up this morning feeling a little off but ate my breakfast and was doing alright until I left for work. In the car I felt like I was bloated and had a stomach ache, then I kept losing focus on the road. When I got to work my stomach ache had gotten a lot worse and I became very nauseous very fast. I made around three trips to the bathroom feeling faint and sweaty, I tried to make myself throw up but had no luck. The pain and discomfort became so unbearable I had to close up and get my stepmom to drive me to the walk-in clinic. By then I was no longer nauseous at all, but the stomach ache persisted. The doctor told me it could either be a stomach flu, or judging by the area of the pain (middle to right side of abdomen) it could be appendicitis. I went home after that and have been laying on the couch sipping ginger ale. The pain isn t any better but isn t any worse. It hurts the most when I m moving around and/or getting up and laying down on the couch. I have had diarrhea today so it isn t constipation. If the pain isn t getting worse, could it still be appendicitis?

Hi,

A certain degree of bloating is normal but in case of excessive bloating, it may be a sign of food allergy, hiatal hernia, IBS or inflammatory bowel diseases.

So you should do gastroenterologic work up but first, try to change your dietary habits, it means: eat smaller meals but more frequently, avoid fried and spicy food, take menta tea, avoid alcohol and coffee, eat probiotics and milk products, boiled food and vegetables.

Also, there are medications such as Fabian, Magnesium oxide or certain Laxatives which may relieve such symptoms of this continue.

If there won't is an improvement on these measures, you should consider doing diagnostic tests such as colonoscopy, anal sphincter manometry and food allergy testing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
