My aunt has developed over the last two wks a dark nearly black scab on her neck the size of a palm of a hand it is weeping a watery substance which she keeps wipeing she won t let us take her anywhere to get it checked out, it is now red around the edge we are worried incase it is a cancer, can you please advise us on what it mite be please.
I can understand your concern for weeping scab on the neck of your aunt's skin. I am quite empathetic to your aunts skin condition.
It is really troublesome in elderly persons to take care of skin infections. As per the description it doesn't appear to be in cancer of the area.
In my view it is simple infection or eczema like condition which is actually exacerbated due to scratching. In my patients with your aunt's condition I start with steroid such as clobetasol with gentamycin and give antihistamine such as cetrizine for the treatment of the condition. Sometimes oral steroids might be required in tapering dose to treat the condition best.
My all best wishes for the early recovery.
