What Causes A Swollen Gland Just Below Left Clavicle?

I have a platelet count of 125, wbc of 3.8, a swollen gland just below my left clavicle, one just above my left clavicle, and one on my left jawline. these have been coming and going for the past 6-9 months sometimes being visible. my hair has been falling out for the past month but not sure if that is just the natural order of hair growth & loss. I have days when I am very tired and have not done anything to instigate it. My thigh bone has been aching on occasion & when it does I have to take ibuprofen & go to bed. I have irregular/heavy menses. My GP set up an appt with a hemotologist who ordered a bunch of blood work. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there,
With the swellings you described and the blood picture with a reduced platelet count and altered WBC count it is likely that you have a problem with lymph node enlargement. Lymph nodes are like the scavengers of the body and any disorder with them will lead to alteration in the WBC values. We need not get ahead of ourselves and speculate what it is, rather be assured that seeing a hematologist right now is the best course of action. He/she would order a workup which may include lymph node or bone marrow biopsies. Once we get those results we can decide a course of treatment.

I know whenever you are referred to specialists and the consultant leaves you open ended on a diagnosis it is frustrating but we do this to ensure we have a concrete diagnosis in hand before telling you so that you do not have unnecessary worry.

So be calm and we would cross the bridge when we come to it,

Please feel free to address any further queries to me,
