What Causes A Seizure After A Hip Replacement Surgery?

I had a hip replacement surgery on June 20th and on June 29th at 2:30am I woke up with the parameds loading on a gurney. Apparently, I had had a seizure and was completely wet with perspiration as if I had just run a marathon. I have never ever had a seizure before. A friend of a friend in Calif. also had a seizure after having been out of hip replacement surgery also. The only common thing is that we both had spinal anesthesia. Could you elaborate and give your opinion please.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Having seizures following surgery like hip replacement could have been due to following reasons:
1. Alterations in calcium homeostasis.
2. Hypoglycemia.
3. Electrolyte imbalance.
The underlying cause for this needs to be investigated and treated accordingly.
Kindly consult Neurologist in this regard for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided helps.
All the best.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.
