What Causes A Rash On The Upper Arm After Receiving A Cortisone Shot?

I am a diabetic nd received a cortisone shot last week. I have now broken out in a horrible rash on my upper left arm and around my armpits and also on 3/4 of my right leg. My dermatologist said it is caused from te cortisonr shot comprising my immune system because I am a diabetic and also said he thinks the rash is cellutitis.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I don't think this rash can be cellulitis because as you are describing it seems more like an allergic reaction to corticosteroid injections. Cellulitis is an infection of soft tissue under the skin.

You can attach a photo of the rash in reports for me to evaluate it better. Taking any antihistamines such Benadryl or cetirizine us advisable.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
