My husband has had a sebaceous cyst on his lower back for years. This week it developed what looked like a pimple on top of it and then by the next day, it became sore and began draining and smelled really bad. It seemed flatter and he didn t want to keep pressing on it to drain and so after waiting a day, he went to the doctor. Even though there was still a lump there, the doctor just gave him a steroid shot and put him on antibiotics...no draining or removal. He s been on them since yesterday morning and now he seems to have a fever and it s painful. Is this due to the antibiotics fighting the infection or is there another possible concern of it maybe being in his bloodstream. We are trying to decide if we should take him to the ER or not.
