What Causes A Painless Hard Lump On The Foot?

Hello Our son seems to have a hard lump on the top of his left foot. He is 14 yrs old and also has Down Syndrome, not sure if that has anything to do with it, but thought I would mention it, in case there is any link. He s had it for a few weeks now, we thought maybe it was from playing touch football. There is no discolour around the lump. Its approx. 5cm in diameter and 4cm high. He s not the easiest of patients to examine, so thought we d ask for your opinion. Thank you

Hello,

What you are describing seems like a cyst under the skin. It doesn't seem like an abscess since it is not painful in touch. Also cannot be a cancer since has been appearing in such a short time in this size. Of course I cannot be sure without seeing a photo of it or/and examining it. But in either case, if it is bothering your son there is nothing you can do with medicines. It will probably need a local doctor to either drain it or remove it with the capsule.
