What Causes A Lump Under The Breasts?

My name is Brian Davis, my 15 year old daughter has a small lump under her left breast at the base of her breast, a smaller on her right. The lump under her left breast is an oval shape about the size of a marble. The right side one is a little higher on her breast just a tad bit smaller. She also has a lump on the base of her left breast but on the right side of her left breast. On her right breast she has another lump at the same area but on the opposite breast. These are oval shaped and about 3 inches long and feels like its maybe as big around as your pinkie. It follows the contour of her breast. She started menstrating 2 days ago and noticed the lumps and pain the same day. Last month she had something similar but was about a week before she started her period. Last month she said that the areas were so painful that she had to sleep on her back. She did not tell us about this problem because she thought the pain would quite on its own. She said the pain was better 4 days later but isn t sure if the lumps went away or not. She is very active and is 5 2 and weights 103 lbs. She is in the band and carries a base drum that presses on her breasts. She says after marching or carrying the drum her breast is not sore. She was in 2 parades on the 12th and 13th of Dec. One was about 1 mile march and the second one was about 1 & 1\2 miles. She is not running a fever or has breathing troubles. She has no physical problems or deformation of any kind. She was depressed a few months ago and given a script for Zoloft 10 mg. She only took a few of them because they gave her a headache. She is feeling better mentality now and has been in counseling once a week for two months now. She is not sexually active and has had no injury to her chest. She said the lumps are tender only when they are pressed on. She has no discharge or deformation such as visual lumps, dimples, redness or bruising.

General Surgeon 's  Response
hi.

it is best if you consult with a doctor, preferably a breast or a general surgeon, for clinical evaluation. based from your description, it could be a cyst, a fibroma or a fibroadenoma which are all benign breast lesions. other tumor lesions such as malignancy must also be ruled-out. diagnostics such as breast ultrasound and a possible tissue biopsy may also be recommended. management (medical and/or surgical) will be directed accordingly.

hope this helps.

good day!!
