What Causes A Lump On The Neck Under The Ear Lobe?

I woke up with a limp about the size of a quarter on my neck under my ear lobe cradling my jaw line. I have no pain anywhere. I had an ultrasound and then a sonogram. Results are a 2 cm mass in either my parotid or cervical gland. I have an appointment with an ENT for a consultation in 8 days. There will not be a biopsy at that appointment. Should I find someone to do it sooner? Should I be worried? I am a 52 yr. old female, never had surgery a bit overweight decent health but a smoker, pack a day.

Hi,

There are many possible causes of a lump on the neck under the ear lobe. Some common causes include swollen lymph nodes: lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped structures that help to filter out bacteria and other foreign substances from the body. They can become swollen due to infection, inflammation, or other conditions.

Salivary gland problems: the salivary glands in the neck produce saliva, which helps to keep the mouth moist and aids in digestion. Problems with the salivary glands, such as infection or blockage, can cause lumps to form. Cysts: A cyst is a sac filled with fluid that can form anywhere in the body. Neck cysts can occur under the ear lobe.

Lipomas: A lipoma is a benign (non-cancerous) tumor made up of fat cells. Lipomas can occur anywhere in the body, including under the ear lobe. Abscesses: An abscess is a pocket of pus that can form due to infection or other conditions. Abscesses can cause lumps to form on the neck.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
