What Causes A Lump At Front Base Of The Throat Between The Collarbones?

Hi, I have what feels like a lump at the front base of my throat, between my collarbones. It makes swallowing sometimes quite difficult, and whenever I lift my left arm up or don t have my head tilted in a particular way at night I feel like I m choking. I also have a swollen lymph node on my left clavicle. I was wondering if you might be able to talk a bit about this?

Hello,

Swelling or lump in the front base of the throat should be physically examined by a GP. Some lumps are benign others may be malignant.

You may need to have a biopsy to rule out malignancy. Since you have swollen lymph nodes in the clavicle, it is indicative of infection(you may need antibiotic).

Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected. Other factors causing such symptoms can be GERD, anxiety, depression. avoid stress & addictions if any.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
