What Causes A Large Red Itchy Patch On The Upper Back?

My husband woke up with a rather large red, itchy patch on his shoulder/upper back area. He remembers it itching during the night, but no pain or other symptoms. It continues to itch and we have applied products to help with the itching...doesn t seem to be any better (or worse). No exposure to anything new or chemicals/plants that may have done this...any thoughts?

Hello,

Most probably he could have been bitten by an insect during sleep or an allergic reaction to a substance that touched his shoulder.

You can give him antihistamines such Benadryl or Cetirizine for itching and itching. You can use hydrocortisone cream locally to help stop itching too.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
