What Causes A Hard Lump Beneath Sternum In Children?

Hello,My two year old daughter was running around with no shirt on and when she would bend certain ways specifically back I noticed a marble sized lump beneath her sternum. Not underneath her sternum but rather below almost or just about the upper most part of the abdomen. It seemed hard and I was wondering if this was the xiphoid process or bone at the end of sternum. Seems quite low. She doesn t seem to be bothered by it and the skin on top is not red, swollen, or agitated in any way. Please advise. Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It can be lipoma or connective tissue benign swelling however for reassurance get it reviewed by your primary care physician and get biopsy of the swelling done. If cosmetic issues bother then surgical resection is a possibility.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
