Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

ST depression in ECG usually represents ischemic to myocardial muscles, but is a highly unspecific thing. Some of the other most common cause of ST depression are:

- Hypokalemia.

- Right or left ventricular hypertrophy.

- Intraventricular conduction abnormalities (For example, right or left bundle branch block, WPW).

- Hypothermia.

As asked by you yes it can be lethal, few tests are recommended apart from ECG which is the basic test of cardiology, advised 2d echo to rule out ischemia to heart muscles, as ST depression signifies ischemia. A stress thallium test is a nuclear imaging test which is 98% sensitive to rule out cardiac ischemia and coronary blockages.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rini
